The Verrazano-narrows bridge
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which connects Staten Island to Brooklyn is the longest suspension bridge in America. Designed by Swiss engineer Othmar Amman, he described it as, “An enormous object drawn as faintly as possible.” It's an iconic presence in my neighborhood, framing the seasons and the sky, attracting the thunderbolts of the gods, and disappearing and reappearing in the fogs and clouds. This series documents the extraordinary presence it offers to those who surround it.
