Far Apart explores a narrow strip of parks, paths, and ball fields bordered on one side by a six-lane highway and New York Harbor and on the other side by the dense residential neighborhood of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Are urban respites like this, no wider than a few hundred feet wide at many points, still large enough sanctuaries to hold wonder, mystery, and relief to an anxious city neighborhood during a pandemic? Can they even offer some healing? And what are the narratives we find in a setting like this when we really look closely? Are they as Arcadian as we might imagine? This project was featured on Lenscratch in 2021.
